Hardware options at ICISE

1. Photosensor

  • Single MPPC (2 generations), the 1st generation (Vop ~ 70V) and 3rd generation (Vop~ 57V)
  • MPPC array (4×4= 16 channels)

Soldering for photosensor power supply/readout

Only soldering option is available for single MPPC. MPPC array is going with a dedicated PCB The readout circuit will be provided

2. Scintillator

  • Two types of scintillator, each teams is with four scintillator bar. The size is important to estimate the cosmic muon rate
  • Consider the arrangement with wavelength shifting fiber (WLS)
  • Consider the light tightening

3. Wavelength shifting fiber

  • Need to cut (length should be estimated)
  • Need to polish
  • Need to consider how coupling with single/array MPPC (whether using an optical coupling or well-aligned laser cut). For MPPC, only one option is to use customized plate, but need to consider how to fix the position of wavelength into the plate. Remember the channel mapping for MPPC array
    • Light tightening of the WLS
    • Use UV glue

4. Signal proceessing options

Amplifier

  • 8 channel NIM amplifier; x10 per stage of amplification. Also, There is an amplifier with shaper
  • For MPPC, there is a built-in amplifier in the PCB; no need of amplifier

Disciminator

  • Threshold ~ 20mV at minimum (with single MPPC, may need two-stage of amplifier)

Coincidence

  • NIM module
  • Oscilloscope option using the pattern trigger.

5. Data acquisition

  • Two oscilloscopes are available for two team. Team A can use 200MHz bandwidth oscilloscope while team B can use 100Mhz bandwidth. Four channels can be used

6. LED and driving methods

  • LED with different wavelength are available
  • To drive LED, specifically for pulsing ~ 100ns
    • Use Function generator
    • Use Analog Discovery
    • Use Arduino (UNO (~100ns) or DUE (~24ns))
